NXT GEN 2012
The theme for the next competition is Savory Sweets, drawing upon the growing popularity of culinary influences to extend the flavors and textures of chocolate confections. Entry forms will be posted in Spring 2012.
NXT GEN Background
Founded in 2004, the competition is held in New York City every two years. Judging is conducted by a team of six experts, drawn from chocolate manufacturers, established chocolatiers and corporate buyers. Awards are given in four categories: Best Bonbon, Best Bar, People’s Choice and Rising Star. The Rising Star award is reserved for both students and emerging chocolatiers (under 30 years of age or in business at a US-based company less than five years). The People’s Choice award is voted upon at the Awards Ceremony. Three Honorable Mention certificates are also bestowed.
Artisans Welcome
The mission of the Next Generation Chocolatier Competition is to recognize the talents of aspiring American artisan chocolatiers. It is open to US-based chocolate makers who use artisan production methods, whether they are emerging professionals or student aspirants.
Submission Instructions
When the competition opens, chocolatier aspirants who meet the competition entry guidelines should submit their name, short bio, entry fee, photo sampler of their work — not necessarily the sample(s) they may submit for judging — and a photo of themselves. These photos should be digital and in high resolution jpg or png format. Approximately thirty contestants will be selected to enter the final round of judging. Finalists will be instructed when and where to send their samples. The judging process is a closed event. The judging panel shall bestow three awards: Best Bonbon, Best Bar and Rising Star.
Six finalists are invited to the Awards Ceremony which is normally scheduled before the start of the NYC Chocolate Show in early November. The event is open to the public. Guests are invited to meet the winning chocolatiers, sample their chocolate, enjoy the hors d’oeuvres and wine bar and kick-start New York’s Chocolate Week. The People’s Choice award is voted upon at the Awards Ceremony.
