US Chocolate Sales up 6%; while premium jumps 10%

In 2011, the U.S. chocolate market grew 6.0% to $19.3 billion. But certain segments scored much better. Premium chocolate sales rose 10.0% to $2.7 billion, while imports of ethically produced cocoa rocketed up 156% to 5,127 metric tons. Fine Chocolate Industry Association Presents Awards and Discusses Trends

On January 15, the Fine Chocolate Industry Association hosted its 2011 Winter Event in San Francisco prior to the opening of the Winter Fancy Food Show. Nine industry leaders were recognized for their dedication: John Scharffenberger and Larry Burdick (Lifetime Achievement), Chantal Coady, Elaine Gonzalez and Pam Williams (Outstanding Service to the Industry), Michael Recchiuti (Outstanding Fine Chocolatier) and Art Pollard, Michel Cluizel and Steve DeVries (Outstanding Fine Chocolate Maker).
